HADLOCK'S ON SAFARI

HADLOCK'S ON SAFARI
WITH
ELDER & SISTER HECK

ON AUGUST 26TH CONNIE AND LAYNE FLEW INTO HARARE AND THAT IS WHEN THE FUN STARTED...................
It was none stop for 17 full days, and can't say that there is a moment that was regrettable.
We visited Orphanages, Leprosy Colonies, Birthing Clinics, The Dump, Victoria Falls, Botswana, Little Makalolo Safari, went to Church in Marondera, and visited World renown Leopard Rock Golf Course, man what a pleasure and joy it was to have them here.
Here are some of the pictures that we will always cherish and remember these fond moments together.

Connie giving a vendor scriptures on our way to Masvingo.  If she would have had another 30 minutes she would have committed him to baptism!!

This is a Zimbabwe Warning Sign, "Caution Ahead", none of the larger vehicles carry warning triangles, it usually is something like this, a rock in the middle of the road, or a branch off a near by tree that has been thrown in the middle of the road.

This was our overnight stay in Masvingo at Norma Jean's B&B.  Had the most beautiful view and gorgeous gardens, we loved it.
Over looking the "Ancient Rock Drawings" at Masvingo.

At the "Ancient Rock Drawings"

Elder Heck giving a young man a new pair of tennis shoes complements of the Scott & Machele Heck Family.  Thank you so much

Layne and Sister Heck giving a woman a "New Born Kit"

Our best friends in Masvingo checking out the new scriptures and books that were given to them.

Inside of a families "Kitchen Hut" which was spotless in every way.  Note the goat which had been killed by a baboon that morning, and is going to be for supper tonight.

T shirts that the Scott Heck Family sent that we gave to a group of village people in Masvingo rural.
Thanks Machele

Layne, hiding out in the Garden of Eden @ Norma Jean's

Local women who are carrying water in 5 gallon buckets back to their home.  They have to walk about 2 miles like this, and the buckets are full of water.

One mans family, notice the step ladder and no shoes.

Street market in Bulawayo, and yes Sister Heck and Connie bought some things here, look real hard and you will find them somewhere.

Sister Heck with a very tired little girl.  A picture is worth a thousand words.

Layne trying to catch a ride on the local bus that is headed to town.

Cape Buffalo with a few real nice trophies in the bunch.

This was home for the next three days.  Sister Heck's idea of camping!!!

Can't remember the name of this bird, but it was super sized!

Couple of signs that were very interesting to us.

Elder Heck getting our guide "Bully" who was very very knowledgeable.
First thing that we saw as we were headed to "Little Makalolo Camp"

This big guy was parked right on the path that we wanted to take, and he wasn't moving either.  There are no fences here, so this is the real thing.  If he wanted us for lunch, he would have Jean or Connie, because I know Layne and Al could out run both of them.

This is what you call "Love at first sight, as Connie or Jean to tell you the rest of the story.

This is what these guys tracks look like in the sand, pretty scary to see them before you see the real thing!!

Typical African sun set around the water hole, look real close and you can see the elephants coming in for their daily drink.  One of the most beautiful sun sets we have ever witnessed.

BAOBAB TREES

COMING BACK FROM SOUTH AFRICA WHEN WE WENT TO THE TEMPLE WITH THE MARONDERA BRANCH WE WENT THROUGH AN AREA IN ZIMBABWE THAT WAS LOADED WITH THE MOST MAGNIFICANT TREES IN THE WORLD, AND SOME OF THE OLDEST TREES IN THE WORLD.  PICTURES ARE GREAT AND THESE ARE VERY IMPRESSIVE, BUT YOU CAN'T BELIEVE HOW MAGNIFICIENT THEY ARE UNTIL YOU SEE THEM IN PERSON.

ENJOY!!!!

HERE ARE A COUPLE STORIES ABOUT THE TREES.

The baobab was among the first trees to appear on the land.

Next came the slender, graceful palm tree,

it cried out that it wanted to be taller.

Then the beautiful flame tree appeared with it's red....

flower and the baobab was envious for flower blossoms.

When the baobab saw the magnificent fig tree...

it prayed for fruit as well.

The Gods became angry with the tree and pulled......

it up by its roots, then replanted it.............

upside down to keep it quiet.

Hence, this is why this tree appears to be planted upside down.

THE LEGEND OF THE AFRICAN BAOBAB TREE is the story of a beautiful tree who complained to the Great Spirit of the Wild Plains...

about wanting to be the BEST and BRIGHTEST and the MOST HANDSOME of all the African Trees.

The GREAT SPIRIT became tired of the complaints and reached down from the sky, yanked the tree out of the ground.............

and placed it back into the earth UP SIDE DOWN!!!

All the animals were alarmed and so was the huge tree.

For after that, the magnificint tree only grew leaves once a year.

The other months, the ROOTS seem to bend and grow

towards the sky.

The Baobab Tree is a symbol of the strength of Africa.

The trunks are hollow and as you can see in ancient times people actually
made their home inside the trunks.  This particular tree that we stopped at had a fire built inside of it.

The Baobab tree is unusual in that it is 90% water and swells up after the rain.

None of these trees look alike and they are all unusual in their appearance.  We love looking at these trees either close up or at a distance.  Kind of reminds us of Halloween.  Get the picture.
